Summer Show at West Horsley Village Hall this Saturday 25th June

The West Horsley Horticultural Society (WHHS) has its members Summer Show on Saturday 25th June at West Horsley Village Hall and is open to the public from 2.00pm till 5.00pm.  There are 55 classes in all  covering flowers, fruit, vegetables, homecrafts, cookery and competitions just for children.  A new feature is a 'men only' class for baking a bun loaf.  The emphasis is traditionally on Roses at this this time of year, but the very early flowering and the recent very wet weather will make finding good roses to show none too easy.

Last year Roses and Penstemon were flowering in mid June

Indeed the warmth and drought of earlier months will have made it difficult for almost every gardener.  It will be interesting to see how entries from the Grace and Flavour community garden compare after doing so well last year.

The Show is not too serious but a friendly competition and whatever the weather Horsley's gardeners will put on a good display. If you can,  come and see and talk to the gardeners - find out how they do it - worth a look.

On May 14th WHHS had its annual plant sale in the village hall where members sell plants they have specially grown for sale or have in surplus. There were excellent plants at very good prices especilly in the perennial flowers,,tomatoes and vegetables. The sale, which is the main fundraiser for the Society, raised just on £420. As well as the annual spring plant sale it is planned to have a 'bring and buy' sales table at the next Winter and Spring monthly talks and meetings.
